Posts from the NEW YORK CITY Category

I’ll admit that lately, I’ve been missing the big ol’ NYC. So I thought I’d dedicate this post to the NYC Photobooths! The ones below are my favorite of the ones I discovered (I slacked and missed a few, unfortunately…) So many good memories, and definitely some great shots.

The list:

-Coney Island: The Coney Island photobooth is simply in the most ideal location. Vintage atmosphere, a beach, and good ol’ fashion rides surrounding an old fashioned Photobooth? You couldn’t ask for anything more.  With it’s more modern facade it popped out some greatly contrasted photos (but not quite as on-key contrast as Bubby’s Pie Co..) Which brings me to:

Coney Island

Under the Wonder Wheel

Brooklyn, NY – Coney Island (N,Q,R)

-Bubby’s Pie Co: I made sure to go to this one before my departure back to Paris. It’s down in TriBeCa. I thought to myself that pies and a photobooth make for quite the combination. This booth put out amazingly contrasted photos that I used for my ID picture in many cases, not lyin’! This is also the booth that I took this picture in. Go and enjoy their pie. More info right here.

120 Hudson Street

New York, NY – Franklin St. (1,2)

-Lakeside Lounge: This little piece of heaven is in the heart of one of my favorite parts of New York: Alphabet City. Not only is it where Rent takes place, but it’s a lively quarter filled with amazing shops, bars, and of course PEOPLE WATCHING! It’s a got a bit of a boho twist that will make you smile. This bar is right around the corner from the Life Café; kind of grungy, but with a classic twist. I happened to go when my sister was in town and there was a French indie singer playing the guitar inside, and the room was filled with foreigners. I felt like I was in the right place at the right time. My sister and I snapped a few photos before having a drink. They use the token system where you buy a token at the bar to put in the machine. Not a bad idea for a bar…but it was a dollar more expensive than the other booths I went to in NYC, but also had the classic curtain that wasn’t ripped out yet [See the photo second from the right of my sister and I].

Lakeside Lounge

162 Avenue B

New York, NY – 1st Ave (L)

-The Smith: I knew about The Smith because it is one of Trevor’s favorite restaurants. Tucked downstairs by their restrooms…. low and behold… is a photobooth! I just thought it was too cute. I’m telling you, the day there is a cupcake shop with a photobooth I’ll go weak in the knees. Having it in a restaurant I found to be so fun (like Bubby’s). These ones turned out good. And it was quite the aventure doing them with Liz, Shayna and Valerie. Plus, The Smith has great food and a great atmosphere.

55 Third Avenue

New York, NY – 3rd Ave (L)

-Union Pool: This is pretty much my favorite place in Brooklyn. A hip bar with a photobooth. YES PLEASE. And this one has fantastic contrast. I always enjoyed going and taking advantage of their great beers on draft for Happy Hour. It’s definitely a great place to hold events- especially in the summertime with the patio! You can read more about Union Pool right here.

Other old fashioned booths in the NYC are at Bushwick Country Club, Bubby’s Brooklyn, and The Living Room.  You can find out about photobooths near you with Photobooth.net.

And thus the week begins!

Good luck with your Mondays, everyone!

Another Ode to snackies in NYC. And this one is really full of color.

This place is absolutely delicious (do I say that about everything?) When my twin and mom were in town we popped up to the Upper East Side to check out this little piece of heaven. From the get-go, the polka dots lured me inside. The cupcakes were different than a lot of them in NYC—- the way the icing was spread—- little polka dots on top—- it made it a pinch different than any other cupcake I had seen around. They even have PUPPY CUPCAKES! Talk about a niche market. I thought it was adorable. It reminded me of when I would go to Einstein’s Bagels as a kid and get the Doggie Bagels for my pups. That kind of thing made me so happy! I was a perky child.

Anyway, they’ve got Sprinkles in several cities, check out their website to find out if one is coming near you! Even for a chain of cupcake shops, they still have their spunk, and deliciously moist flavorful cupcakes.

This week has flown by. I wonder where the time goes. But autumn is approaching. Are you ready for fall? I am ready to whip out the coats and boots. Also on the plate this next few weeks are some great markets and vide-greniers. You can check out where they are in Paris here. It’s always fun to let your eyes wander through all the treasures. I also got to make it up to a certain cupcake shop up in the 17th for a snack. Anyone want to join?

Speaking of food, a friend of mine started a Bio Food Blog all about Organic Restos & Recipes in and around Paris called Off We Bio. Check it out right here.

… is there such a selection of great places with delicious Mac ‘N Cheese! This place especially: S’mac.

Wait a minute… do I already miss one of America’s most tasteful treasures? MAC N CHEESE? I mean, I can get it here at Hard Rock, but that’s for last resort. However my friend Emilie did indeed show me an AMAZING recipe [more on that later]. Sometimes you just want a good ol’ sit down restaurant style bowl of Mac N Cheese (the one at the Brooklyn Bowl was also fantastic, sprinkled in bread crumbs… mmm). Let’s just say it’s brought it to a whole new level.

S’Mac has got a Noodles & Co-type feel. You know, that not-fast-food-but-not-quite-sit-down-restaurant-type feel. They’ve got two store fronts in the East Village: one with all the to-go preps, and another with self seating. You can go from pizza-like Mac ‘N Cheese  mixed in with with tomatoes & basil galore,  to 4 cheese, or even to something as crazy as Philly Cheese Steak. There are four different sizes, so even if it’s just for a snack, S’Mac will fill you up just as much as you would like.

Check them out on Facebook here.

Go and stuff your face, you won’t regret it.

I’m currently dreaming of a bite of their Mac N Cheese, just sayin’.

My mom and my sister were in NYC a few weeks ago to visit, and one of the top places on my list to go with them was the Brooklyn Bowl. I had been before with Liz for a concert when we came to NYC in 2009, but had never really experienced the joy of bowling there.

After a beer at the Brooklyn Brewery (boy I’m going to miss the Brooklyn Lager!) we ordered a pitcher of some Summer Ale, and bowled away. I don’t think I have had this much fun in a long long time. Three of the people closest to me competing in a bowling game. My mom was on a bowling team when Em & I were babies, but I  had no idea she was a really good- and not to mention competitive- bowler. OY VEY.

After the bowling we popped over to the other side of the immense space they’ve got filled with brilliantly adorable lights and decorations. Not only was their food delicious, but their menu was a typographic heaven.

Nothing like good ol’ family fun.

Where did the summer go?

Obsessed with everything from here, and somehow getting a lot of it back to France with me, HA!

So stoked about my Pantone Postcards. What’s your favorite color?
