Evergreen, Colorado is a little wonderland about 20 miles west of Denver. As kids we would spend a lot of time here as a family friend lived close by, and now that my mom lives up there, I am so excited to be able to rediscover this beautiful area.
Evergreen started to become populated around the late 1800′s, and continued to grow as it provided lumber for the buildings of Denver. Once roads through the mountains were improved, it became a popular summer destination. You can read more about what you can do in Evergreen here. If you’re driving through the Rockies, on your way to the ski resorts, I highly suggest swinging by Evergreen!
Downtown Evergreen is basically one main street, filled with the basics and a few specialty shops. It is the home of the Little Bear, a western saloon that my parents would go to before I was born to dance and drink, and the Baskin Robbins where my brother had his first taste of ice cream! There are many galleries as well, and Evergreen’s winery, Creekside Cellars.
This area is filled with so many family memories, and it was so wonderful to stroll down Evergreen’s main street with my mom to reminisce and hear all of the stories she had to tell from the 80′s.
My favorite Evergreen spots:

love that photo of your mama.
She’s so wonderful.
Oh wow! The Little Bear! I have not been there in years!
I spent a lot of time in the late 80s and early 90s in and around Pine Junction and Bailey — my folks, both sets of them (they are divorced and remarried) lived up there for about a decade. We also almost moved to Evergreen when I was little, but then eventually wound up in Green Mountain. It’s such a pretty area. I have not been up that way in a really long time. I should go and check things out soon! Maybe when it is a little warmer, lol. I love seeing the pretty pictures of the snow, but walking around in it is not as nice for me — better seen from an indoor perspective! Guess I am not a vraiment Colorado Girl, haha. I Just don’t like being cold very much!
Beau Jo’s is awesome as well — love the original Idaho Springs location, but there’s one near me in SE Denver, too. I like them as they have a gluten-free vegan option with pizza, and it is the same great sauce with honey for the crust. Yum!
Isn’t it a magical area!? It does indeed get cold, I hadn’t felt that cold in quite a while, boy was it a rough surprise!
I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t tried Beaujo’s yet!! *ashamed*
Ooh, what a beautiful town! And that photo of your mother is gorgeous!
