Of course a trip to Coney Island had to happen while my Frenchman was in town. I had never been, and had always been curious as to how it actually was down in the southend of Brooklyn. I also have a thing for taking pictures of circus fonts and amusement park rides… So, we hopped on the subway and went to check out last Wednesday- which turned out to be a great afternoon excursion, and it definitely was not too crowded that day! Bummer it was a bit cloudy though, the beach would have been divine.
I knew there was a photobooth as I had done my research on Photobooth.net (duh) so I was pleased to have discovered that one right under Deno’s Wonder Wheel: one color and one black & white old fashioned booth! The prints turned out great, the contrast was impressive. You can check out all of the NYC & Brooklyn photobooth locations here.
I hadn’t realized that there were several parks (Luna, Deno’s…) at Coney Island. You swirve in and out of them – of course after getting a hot dog at Nathan’s right after you get of the subway…..! We only did the Cyclone in terms of rides- but prepare your back for that one, mine is still achey….I’ve had my fair share of Roller Coasters across the US but man that one had some sharp dips. At any rate, be sure to walk around all the parks- you only have to pay for tickets to ride things! It’s great for people watching. And they blasted the top 40 playlist which made me smile.
Next time I head down yonder I plan to hit up the beach, that is a must! With a cold beer and a view of all the rides, it’s just pure preciousness. Stick around for the unset and all the lights will illuminate the boardwalk. A great slice of classic Americana.

Bien sûr, un voyage à Coney Island devait arriver alors que mon français était en ville. Je n’avais jamais été, et a toujours été curieuse de savoir comment il était réellement dans le sud de Brooklyn. J’ai aussi un faible pour prendre des photos de polices de cirque et les manèges et des attractions aux parcs de loisirs … Donc, nous avons pris le métro et voilà! En plus il y avait certainement pas trop de monde ce jour-là! Dommage qu’il était nuageux, la plage aurait été divin.
Je savais qu’il y avait un photomaton comme j’avais fait mes recherches sur Photobooth.net (duh) j’ai donc été ravie d’avoir découvert que celui sous Deno’s Wonder Wheel: un classique qui imprime en couleur et un classique qui imprime noir et blanc! Je n’avais pas réalisé qu’il y avait plusieurs parcs (Luna, Deno …) à Coney Island. Vous swirvez de l’un à l’autre – bien sûr après avoir mangé un hot-dog chez Nathan en sortant du métro …..! Nous avons seulement fait le cyclone en termes d’attractions, mais préparez vous pour celui-là, ça fait mal ….En tout cas, soyez sûr de marcher autour de tous les parcs- il faut seulement payer pour faire des attractions! Les parcs sont idéals pour simplement regarder les gens. Et ils ont mis le top 40 playlist à fond…. qui m’a fait sourire.
La prochaine fois que j’irai là-bas j’ai l’intention de frapper jusqu’à la plage, qui est un must! Avec une bonne bière froide et une vue sur tous les attractions, la vie est belle. Restez dans les environs pour la couche de soleil et toutes les lumières s’allumeneront sur la promenade. Une bonne tranche d’Americana classique.

You’ll definitely have to try to make it! It is a fun experience. I should have popped by the beach this day! It’s definitely a fun little get away from the big bad city.
